Canyoning – Couros
This canyon is located at the south of Chapada, inside Alto Paraiso limits. Access involves 4×4 vehicles. From the parking lot, an hour-long trail walk takes us to the mighty Catarata dos Couros.
Before the activity begins, conductors gear up and instruct the group of all procedures and techniques to be used and do one-on-one training with all participants.
We will gear up and begin the fall’s descent. Approximately 50 meters of different plateaus in various abseiling and a guided descent at Capacete’s fall.
Next up, we will go down a confined 12m abseiling and cross two big pools. We arrive at one of the most impressive parts of the canyon, known as Bujao waterfall. Another 40m down the middle of the river and we get to the confined Couros canyon, crammed in enormous walls and many waterfalls.
We will pass by a handrail and will go down the Parafuso waterfall, 60m high. At this point, Couros river enters into an extremely dangerous gutter as we follow it down by the margin with the canyon aside. We will do two abseilings on the walls, on a 60m total descent. We will arrive at the end of the canyon in a gigantic 200m wide pool.
After our last abseiling, we will walk a bit in the river, another bit through the forest for about 3 hours until the Moon Sanctuary, inside the canyon where we can camp at night, if wanted to.
Moon Sanctuary, as the inside of the Couros canyon is called, consists of 8 kilometers of well preserved Cerrado forests between 300m tall walls. It houses rich fauna and flora, very peculiar alongside river forests. With organic architecture, with no harm to the exuberant native nature around, there are structures that can be enjoyed while in there.
After the Moon Sanctuary there is another hour walking until we reach our supporting vehicle at the muster point.
